The Taxi and Limousine Commission and the police were cracking down on illegal cabs at the St. George Ferry Terminal yesterday, a day after the Advance highlighted the problems with unlicensed taxis that pick up fares at the Staten Island commuter hub.
The TLC said it wants to hold drivers accountable and to make sure riders are safe when they get into a cab or limousine. Car services can only pick up pre-arranged rides, not hawk passengers on the street.
But some people who have come to rely on the car services parked outside the terminal exits weren't pleased yesterday when they didn't find their expected rides waiting for them.
